Gut-Health Berry Banana Smoothie

A gut-health recipe share today, featuring my tiny helper (with some Play-Doh under her fingernail). Smoothies are usually the only way I can get my littles to take vegetables; I mask the flavor of some spirulina powder or spinach with wild local honey, lots of berries and tart, freshly squeezed lemon juice.
I always add a bit of chia seeds and flax seeds, but I first grind them as ground flax seeds are easier to digest (especially for the littles). Ground flax seeds are a huge help in digestion and constipation issues, which is especially hard when your kids refuse to eat vegetables. I hope you give this recipe a try, and even make it a habit at home. Enjoy!

Gut-Health Berry Banana Smoothie
2 servings
Ingredients:
1/4 cup mix of chia seeds and flax seeds
2 handfuls spinach (about 1 cup packed)
1 1/2 cup frozen mixed berry
2 very ripe bananas
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup wild honey
1/4 water (or more, as preferred)
Directions:
1. Using a mortar and pestle, roughly grind the 1/4 cup of mixed chia seeds and flax seeds (does not need to be a fine grind).
2. Add the ground seeds along with the spinach, frozen berries, bananas, lemon juice, honey and 1/4 cup of water to a blender. Blend until smooth; add water as needed. Serve immediately. Enjoy.
