Today I've decided to go outside my usual cup of coffee consisting of espresso, frothed milk and sugar. I know that, when too much is added, lavender can taste rather soapy. I've learned that the longer this syrup stands (I've had mine in the refrigerator for a few weeks now), the stronger the taste will be. I sweeten my coffee with sweetened condensed milk and add 2 teaspoons of the lavender syrup for my perfect cup of Honey Lavender Latte. What is your perfect cup?
Honey Lavender Latte
1 cup water
1 1/2 Tablespoons edible grade dried lavender
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey, plus more to drizzle
1 cup steamed milk
1 teaspoon sweetened condensed milk (optional)*
1. First, prepare the honey lavender syrup. Add the water and edible grade dried lavender to a small saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat, then add the brown sugar and honey. Turn heat down to medium and cook, stirring, until sugar is entirely dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool completely. Strain into a glass jar and discard lavender buds.
2. Prepare your preferred amount of espresso. Add in lavender syrup to taste and a teaspoon of sweetened condensed milk (if using) and stir, then add steamed milk. Drizzle with more honey, if desired. Enjoy.
*I use sweetened condensed milk in mine as I prefer a light lavender flavor, but I want my coffee a little more sweet. Plain sugar can be used instead.
