40-Minute Bread Buns

These little bread buns are so pleasing to the eye and so simple to make. They are a winner in my kitchen and I've made them time and time again! When I need bread but don't want to take 3 or more hours to make a loaf (and don't want to go to the store), I whip these up quickly and serve up with BBQ chicken, egg salad, or just as a nice dinner bun. The options are endless! Give these a try today!

40-Minute Bread Buns

Makes 12 buns

2 tablespoons active dry yeast

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (110 to 115 degrees F)

1/4 cup sugar

1/3 oil, such as canola or grapeseed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon salt

3 to 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Black and white sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Add the yeast, warm water and sugar to a large bowl, let it stand for 5-10 minutes. Add in the oil, 1 of the eggs, salt and 3 cups of flour and mix with a wooden spoon until the ingredients start to come together.

2. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until a smooth dough ball forms, about 3-5 minutes, adding more flour as needed. Divide into 12 pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

3. Lay all dough pieces onto a well oiled baking sheet, placed 3 inches apart. Cover with plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk the second egg with 1 teaspoon of water in a small bowl, set aside.

4. Remove plastic wrap and brush the egg wash on each dough ball, then sprinkle with a mix of black and white sesame seeds, if desired. Bake for 8-12 minutes, until light golden brown. Remove from pan and let them cool on a cooling rack. Enjoy.
